Yesterday, Ella turned three and entered into two days of tumultuous celebrations, which proved tiring for at least two of the participants, Dot and me. The first day saw the formal opening of the presents around breakfast time. This took much longer than you might imagine because of the sheer number of lovely gifts sent from around the world and the difficulties sometimes experienced by a 3 yo trying to break to some well defended boxes. This ceremony was followed by the official eating of the cake - the first of two such cakes on successive days - surrounded by just family members.
I append a few pictures of the presents and some readers might glimpse their own. She was remarkably lucky, but also very appreciative. First up, we have a tennis racquet, construction kit (Texo), and a large number of books.
Then came a digital camera - not even heaven knows what first impressions will turn out like; a three-wheeled scooter (Max watch out!), and a ballerina doll.
Finally I show a Kiwi, an electronic keyboard - which thumps out a fast version of Beethoven's Ode to Joy among other things, and the cake before it was savaged by voracious eaters.
