Kite Flying - Literally

After the Noise Lab, lucky Ella and Flynn were taken by us to Mountain View's dedicated kite-flying facility on the southern (and frequently windy) edge of San Francisco bay. Almost daily one can find people flying kites of all kinds or even using fast-moving wind propelled vehicles and, on the day we were there, dozens of  families had kites in the air.

Here's a three-wheeler cart being towed by a huge sail along a fairly rough track.

And here are some views of other people's kites flying high above the open, flattish and and wind-swept terrain.

After considerable struggle, we managed to get one of our two kites airborne, but I suspect that we were hampered by lack of a stabilising tail like those shown in the previous photo. Anyway, we took turns at trying to get the contraption in the air - successfully for a while. And 'we' included mummy daddy, papa (me!), Ella and even Flynn. Ella is seen here trying to hold the kite sufficiently high to catch the wind, with Flynn at the other end.

It was an enjoyable romp and afterwards Daddy, Flynn and Ella took to their bikes for a ride around the site. I took off shortly afterwards on my own bike for a solo trip up the bay-side path before turning for home.
