We stayed in the little Hotel Dara in Istanbul and it was conveniently located close to many of the main attractions whilst being inexpensive. Breakfast was included in the price and the restaurant was located on top of the building. Here are four of the images which greeted us each morning. We never did discover the provenance of the old ruin in the first picture, but it may date back 1000 years.
This Mosque put on a noisy performance 5 times a day (the last being at about 2am) as the faithful were called to prayer. And we were located in a strongly Turkish neighbourhood.
The last two show views of the Sea of Marmara with its flotilla of small boats at anchor in the bay.
I think you'll agree that this made for a nice start to the day! In fact our district had large numbers of small boutique hotels, often with interesting names. There was a hotel Diana (named after Charles' first wife!). Then I noticed a hotel Daphne quite near us. And last night we ate opposite the Hotel Magnificent, which looked anything but. Most of the nearly streets are cobbled, so this is a really old area well within the city walls.
