I've just finished my nth banquet of Japanese food on the 18th floor of my hotel in Kanazawa on the Sea of Japan. It's a small city by Japanese standards with only 400,000 people. The food and the company were exceptional, talking to people from all over the world.
However, the most spectacular event when seen from high up was the city's 90 minute long firework display, which captured everyone's attention. More spectacular still, was the event they were celebrating ... anyone prepared to make a guess? It seems that it is close to the 68 th anniversary of VJ day in early August 1945. That's only 48 days after I was born!
