One of the most interesting features of this trip to Japan has been the food. We have had a succession of interesting meals in which one is only vaguely aware of the contents, but the presentation is superb. This was the case for both lunch and evening dinner yesterday and I'm still here to tell the tale.
I took a few a pictures, shown here, of our dishes and the layout of the tables. At lunch we each had a whole baby trout to eat. I gathered that we were supposed to slurp down the entire creature from head to tail, but we non-Japanese were not inclined to do that and cut off those two parts. You can see the poor fish on the first slide. At the second meal, we had Kobe beef, which was really good along with usual tofu, rice, bits of fish and some strange vegetables. So every day is a culinary exploration.
