I've been in countless coffee houses during my lifetime, but one I visited in down-town Seattle the other day took my breath away. Everyone of those earlier establishments basically had tables and seating for customers and a central counter where one ordered one's drink, selected cakes and slices - or even more substantial meals, and paid for the pleasure.
The Starbucks cafe you're about to see had something extra - coffee roasting, grinding and packaging equipment in full view of customers whirring away in the centre of the establishment, an arrangement no doubt possible because the company's HQ is ... Seattle. All the equipment took up a huge portion of the cafe - it was exceptionally large scale. Alas, this attraction was so popular that the cafe was crammed full of tour parties remaining solidly in place and, desperate for a drink, we had to depart for another venue!! Better luck next time.
