The Week Before Xmas 2

Several more interesting events presaged Christmas's arrival. First, we drove up to just above the snowline at Hyak in the Cascade range to the west of Seattle and had a wonderful time riding sledges down steep slops ... and that included me in a moment of possible madness. Ella, Flynn, Max, Bec, Greg and Emily all had a go on slopes of varying steepness amidst gorgeous scenery and, amazing for this location, bright sunlight. And getting there and back was also entertaining. These pictures tell the story.

Max and his sled. Who would of thought that just days before he was playing in 30C heat in Canberra!

Flynn kitted out ... but only a 3 yo.

Preparing for a ride ... and off we go!

Ella and then Greg and Flynn ... while Max gets his gear off.

 It's a long way down.

Building a snowman.

The next day we were off to the ballet ... a performance of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker. Ella was delighted as she goes to ballet classes, but we left Max and Flynn behind because they'd have been restless ... remember my earlier post about a disastrous decision to take Max to a performance of the Marriage of Figaro! Dot, Bec, Emily and Ella accompanied me to downtown Seattle's concert hall for a lovely performance. I cannot show you that because photography was banned, but I can show the theatre and Ella hamming it up downstairs!

Then, on the day before Xmas, it snowed ... but that didn't prevent us heading off to some wall-climbing. Well, I didn't, but at least I could spend a lot of time taking pictures. But Bec and Max took to it with gusto and looked quite accomplished.

Much of Xmas day itself was taken up with giving, receiving and opening presents that were stacked up mountain high ... with the kids being the major recipients. And of course there was a lovely lunch ably supplied by Emily's culinary talents.
