After glamping for a night at El Questro, we departed early for a local landmark, Emma Gorge. The Kimberleys are full of exquisite gorges, and this was yet another, this time just off the Gibb River Road. This road, by the way, must be one of the loneliest in Australia. There is no town or village, as we would understand them, in the 650 km (400+ miles) between Kununurra and Derby! There are just lonely 'roadhouses' where one can fill up one's car with petrol, the occasional sparse Aboriginal settlement, and some tourist encampments.
Accessing Emma Gorge involved a fairly easy walk and, like elsewhere the scenery was great, along with some interesting vegetation.
I loved the markings on these rocks - left
A nice swimming pool fed by a waterfall, while - right and below - the gorge hosted some luxuriant vegetation by Kimberley standards.
And finally, right, after leaving Emma Gorge, we came to a crossing of the Pentecost River.
