After leaving Yulara, we headed in the hire car to Kings Canyon resort where we were to spend one night. The drive probably took about 3 hours on, believe it or not, paved roads. The Northern Territory government must have spent a fortune on outback roads with, out of season, very little traffic given the sparse population. We spent the afternoon relaxing and going for a walk or two around the resort, which is very isolated.
On one of our walks we met this bloke - a wild dingo (or native dog) brought into Australia by migrating Aborigines thousands of years ago. These dogs attack and eat sheep and are often despised by farmers, But this fellow wasn't aggressive and looked us up and down before ambling off up a rocky cliff face shown in the second picture.
We, including Bec and Max, took a marked and very interesting trail around the resort, We saw Kings Canyon in the distance, marked for an epic walk the following day.
And here are some of the quite nice self-catering apartments where we stayed amidst quite lush vegetation by Central Australian standards.
More pictures of party members. Look at the clarity of the light! The sun shone brilliantly amidst zero pollution - there are few residents and no industry miles from anywhere.
And here we saw the evening sun sun setting behind me lighting up the rock faces and slowly turning them from red to purple. We saw this from a special viewing platform built to showcase this daily event.
