A little over two weeks ago, at the start of our Autumn school holidays and the week before Easter, Dot and I embarked on a wonderful trip organised principally by Rebecca. In summary, we spent a week in Hong Kong, visiting a huge array of destinations and garnering a mass of new experiences. This and several other posts will reflect on our achievements. Let's just say now, that many of my readers might be inspired to follow in out footsteps. Friday the 12th April saw us, (Bec, Max and ourselves) fly into Hong Kong from Sydney on Cathay Pacific. Our first experience was to master the HK public transport system to get from the airport on Lantau Island to our rather swish Regal HongKong hotel at 88 Yee Wo Street, Causeway Bay. That's on Hong Kong Island not far from the CBD. We each acquired the HK equivalent of Sydney's Opal Card, charged it with the local currency, and found a massively efficient and low-cost subway and bus system.
Having checked in, Dot and I found ourselves on the hotel's 14th floor - with Bec and Max on the 17th above us. We then headed off to a nearby Chinese restaurant for an evening meal and, after a while, found ourselves at a table. Bec had excused herself with the excuse that she'd left her wallet in her room and wanted to get it. This little ruse had an amazing purpose. She'd really gone to check in, unbeknownst to us, our USA - resident daughter, Emily, into their 17th floor room and bring her to the dining table. All of a sudden, Dot was embraced by Emily who had flown in to join us on our holiday - leaving her family back in Seattle!
Alas, I have no pictures of this event! And so we retreated to bed and a badly needed rest! We'd successfully joined the other 7.4 million or so local residents in a tiny space (1104 sq km or roughly 33 km x 33 km). That delivers one of the highest population densities in the world.
Just one more thing. I mentioned the quality of the hotel. Just have a look at the dining area where we had our breakfast each morning
And here's the view from our room on the 14th floor.
