Our second full day of energetic started off with our scaling the Peak of HK Island. The aim was not just to take an exotic and very steep tram ride, but also to admire the view fro the top and meet up with some famous people. The rail line to the top top of the Peak is steeped in history as you can see from the first two pictures.
And you can see the tram arriving to take us up - we were part of a very long queue awaiting the exciting journey.
We were soon seated in a crowded carriage and eagerly awaiting our departure. Here I am with Dot and Bec.
We were soon under way and amazed at the incline of our carriages. We must have traveled up at about 40 degrees to the horizontal. And, on reaching the top, Em and Bec had an amazing encounter with the famous, as you can see!
The views from the top were spectacular. We could see the forest of office towers in the Central Business District to the north-west. Above, you can see the views to the north-east over the rain-forest coating HK island.
And, interestingly, quite a bit of the surrounding land was given over to what must be extremely high-priced and up-market real estate.
I couldn't resist and another selfie and, for that matter, a lovely shot of some family members enjoying the views.
Here you can see the railway lines snaking down steeply towards the city centre.
Meanwhile I had a meeting with one of my heroes. Here I am standing with my mate Albert ... Einstein. For some curious reason, there was a Madame Tussaud's exhibition at the summit with heaps of people swarming over it.
After we'd finished with taking in the views ... and the celebrities, some of us took a walk along a track through the thick forests covering the Peak. It was a delightful trip through what looked like virgin forest just a few kilometers from one of the world's most densely populated cities.
I admired the roots of this tree and the waterfall shown below.
And on the left we have a view of the path we traversed.
It was so quiet and visually attractive.
After this walk we headed back to the station and descended the way we came.
On exiting the station the sky opened and the rain poured down - as happened quite a lot during our stay. I couldn't resist photographing this sea of umbrellas - those most dense of any I've seen in my life-time!
I hope you've enjoyed reading this post as much as I've done developing it. This trip of ours was really fun and mind-blowing!
