Broken Hill's Cultural Side

Here we focus on three major art galleries, each dedicated to the work of one nationally prominent artist.

The first is the Pro Hart gallery, whose exterior sculptured wall is shown here.

As we were about to enter the gallery, we were taken aback by these painted Rolls Royce cars!

I am not quite sure where this sculpture garden was located, perhaps at the Pro Hart gallery. Please let me know their true location. However, it was interesting wandering through the gardens in question.

Then we visited the Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery, some of whose interesting images are shown here. Being non-commercial we could readily take photos of the exhibits.

Then we also went to Jack Absalom's gallery but, alas, photography was disallowed. Still, it's well worth visiting.

Finally, we went to an Aboriginal memorial sculptural exhibit about 10 km outside of Broken Hill in a semi-desert environment. This was great as the following pictures show. The sculptures were largely made from large pieces of rock atop a hill that gave lovely views over the surrounding countryside.

Finally, we saw some Aboriginal presumably memorial poles nearby in the Aboriginal reserve. Bec and I took a short walk to observe them.

You'd have to agree that these images testify to a rich artistic culture in the Broken Hill District.
